Chinatown

Neighbourhood profile

For a change of cultural scenery, visit Montreal’s gateway to Asia at the corner of St. Laurent and René-Lévesque boulevards (or Viger Avenue) for a stroll through Chinatown, where you’ll be caught up in the lively atmosphere. Very popular among Montreal’s Asian community, the district is bounded by St. Laurent Boulevard and the pedestrian walkway on de la Gauchetière. Take a break in the small park at the corner of Clark and de la Gauchetière, where a pagoda was erected in honour of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, the renowned philosopher and political leader.

Originally home to the first Chinese immigrants, the neighbourhood has evolved into a more commercial district.
